Create Meaningful Holiday Memories

It’s that time of year to choose the best presents for your loved ones.  And, if you are thinking of giving a healthy gift this season, there’s a lot to choose from.
You want to make sure you are getting a quality item that actually provides a benefit.

Take extra care to avoid cure-all, health-oriented products that make far-fetched claims, like your all-in-one dieting drink.  Flimsy, little-benefit exercise equipment off those late-night infomercials is a no-no.  And, another wellness gift to steer clear of is the bad yoga video.  Everyone seems to be making a yoga video these days, and few are worth even a few dollars.

Instead, look for wellness gifts that calm you down and reduce your stress for 2005.  Here are a few recommendations to look into –

Relaxing Teas
When you sit down to drink tea, you are taking the time to relax, which is very important.  Thus, it would be a nice gesture to send this message of “it’s okay to relax” to your friend or loved one by putting together a gift basket of natural teas for under $30.00.  I prefer the herbal kind, like Celestial Seasonings’ holiday festive editions of Peppermint, Gingerbread Spice, and Sugar Plum Spice.  Add in some honey sticks, a mug, and lip balm, and you’ve got a lovely present.

Celestial Seasonings also is a sponsor of The Red Dress / Heart Truth Campaign, a national effort to help educate the public on ways to reduce heart disease.

Stress Kit for Work
A recent study found out that nearly 40 percent of American workers describe their office environment as being like a “real-life survivor program,” which comes as no surprise to many of us.  With so much stress at work, anything you can give this season that will help knock down that tension a notch will bring good cheer.

You might look for The Stress Relief Set at Office Depot for $24.99.  The package comes with microbead stress balls, a massaging back pillow, a keyboard rest for your wrists, and a CD of soothing sounds.

Good-For-You Pet Fish
There is a proven link between a healthier, longer life and pet ownership – and this includes fish.  And, a University of Pennsylvania study showed that watching fish induced a deep sense of relaxation.  Therefore, as another gift idea this season, look into getting pet fish in a beautiful tank for your home.  This gift will last for a long time, and is perfect if you have children.

If you want to look for a home aquarium, seek out Tetra brand accessories.  The company has a WaterWonders system that hides the filter and heater inside decorative features that look like driftwood or rocks.  It’s easy to set up and looks great.

At my home, we have a simple 10-gallon tank with goldfish that has brought a lot of joy and relaxation to my family.

Happy Holidays!
