2003 Product Recommendations

When
you think of spa, does it include saving money, planning, packing
up, and making a trip? Does it include scheduling, appointments,
and babysitters?
Enjoying the spa experience shouldn’t be so potentially rough or
unavailable. That’s why this week’s column talks about how to enjoy
the spa at home and gives our 2003 at-home spa product
recommendations. |
Michelle Callahan-Kaleta, owner of Sami Home Spa,
told me “The home
spa is a way to break away from the stress of today’s lifestyles.
Normally if people think of going to the spa, they have to make an
appointment, get in a car, get into the spa, undress…sometimes this adds a
lot more stress.”
Michelle says that your home is your sanctuary and that you can create
your own spa space at home in a couple of minutes.
Yes,
it does take effort. But anything good takes a little work. Even five
focused minutes of saying “I’m going to relax right now” can do wonders
for refreshing the mind and rejuvenating your body.
If
you’re serious about bringing the spa into your home, here are some tips
and products (new for 2003) to consider:
Tip
#1: Find the right space. Look for or create in your home the
place that relaxes you. It should be private, comfortable, and always
available.
Sami
Home Spa’s Michelle gave some ideas: a bedroom, a little reading room, a
place where you can see the outdoors, or maybe outside on a deck looking
into the forest.
|
Tip #2: Create
the environment. Make your at-home spa place special. You will
want to create a feel-good environment and an attitude of
relaxation. Add beautiful fabrics, pillows, and fresh flowers.
Add essential oil
candles. Try Aroma Naturals’ VegePure™ candles (www.aromanaturals.com)
that not only include aromatherapy blends but also consist of a
proprietary, long-lasting wax blend that is clean burning, safe, and
non-toxic.
Music also sets the
tone. Some of the best spa music can be found at
www.spa-la-la.com; try Laura Nashman’s “Above the Sound of
Gravity” CD. |

Tip
#3: Add the products. Determine what you want to do and how much
time you have to do it. If you only have five-to-10 minutes, then just
relax and bask in your space. If you have at least 30 minutes, try one of
these activities:
 |
Foot Care:
Look into Dr. Scholl’s new Pedicure Essentials® line (www.drscholls.com).
The line has specially designed foot creams – such as Exfoliating,
Cooling Peppermint, and Smooth and Replenish, along with all the
necessary tools, cleansers, and lotions.
|
 |
Relaxing Bath:
Fill the tub with warm water and a few drops of Sami Home Spa’s (www.samihomespa.com)
aromatherapy Herbal Smoothing Oil. Take a deep breath and enjoy the
relaxing moment. Massage your body with dead sea salts and essential
oils (Sami product currently called Timeless Manicure) to exfoliate,
hydrate, and regenerate your skin.
Wash with Sami’s Handcrafted Herbal Soaps, which the company says will
not only last 3-4 times longer than regular soap but also not dry out
your skin. Gently towel dry and apply Sami’s Herbal Healing Blend
lotion, which includes essential oils and herbs.
|
 |
Comforting Massage:
Enjoy massage at home with a partner. Try Aubrey Organics’ Natural Spa
Sea Wonders’ Invigorating Massage Oil or Unscented Massage Lotion (www.aubrey-organics.com).
The company recently was awarded the first USDA organic seal for a
cosmetic product. |
Two
other resources I recommend, which come in handy for creating new at-home
spa experiences, are the April 2003 released books
Home Spa Vitality
and
Home Spa Relax, both by Jo Glanville-Blackburn.
And,
as Jo says, “Creating a spa within the home allows you the time to treat
all of the senses and to be more responsible about looking after your own
body and its complete wellbeing.”
