As we
embark on the Summer of 2003, take a look at Balanced Living’s
recommended reading:
Feng
Shui Your Life
Finally, a Feng Shui book that is not only beautiful but practical.
Feng Shui Your Life (Sterling, May 2003, $24.95) is probably
the best book out there to give you not only a visual guide but also
easy ways to energize your home or office. |
The
book takes an easy, non-compass look at the bagua (the energy center
locations). And, photographer Jonn Coolidge has taken breathtaking photos
displayed throughout this comprehensive yet easy-read book.
Remarkable Changes:
Turning Life’s Challenges Into Opportunities
My next
favorite is by Jane Seymour.
Remarkable Changes (ReganBooks, May
2003, $24.95) came to my office door on the day I really needed it; I read
it in one day and absolutely loved it.
|
The premise of the
book is that we all experience change in life, with a lot of it not
so friendly. Yet, change can be positive if we look at it with the
right perspective and attitude.
Granted, the former
Dr. Quinn has enough years on her (she’s in her 50s) to have some
comforting hindsight. But her multi-dimensional insight makes a lot
of sense and teaches you how to better deal with the ups and downs
of life.
If you want to
read a book that gives you true hope in adversity, a better
understanding of the universe, or how to navigate life’s bumpy
course, this is for you. |

Permission to Play:
Taking Time To Renew Your Smile
I think the reason why I love this book (Sourcebooks, May 2003, $14.95) is
because I work too much and need someone to tell me it’s okay to play! I
know I’m not alone.
Author Jill Murphy Long has constructed a visually touching, inspirational
book about how to bring the art of playing back into your life.
|

|
Jill says that
“play introduces the concept of ‘balance’ in a busy life. In this
time spent developing, challenging, and nurturing the authentic
self, the promise of play – (which is) happiness – will be found.”
I recommend this
book because I don’t know any adult who couldn’t use more play time
to reduce stress and enjoy life.
Expect to find this
book packed full of ideas on how and what to play – you can’t go
wrong.

Did
you know that one of the top stress-busting foods is lettuce? What are
phytonutrients and where can you get them? After drinking alcohol, if you
drink three glasses of water before you go to bed will it reduce the
morning’s hangover?
These questions are answered, and many others, as each little book teaches
you how to make juices for natural healing. Beautiful photographs show
you the way each juice should look.
