Nonetheless, the control we do have resides in the choices we make as to
how much and in what way we allow those events to affect us.
It’s
my feeling that as you grow older, you either grow more skeptical and see
the world being without hope, or you grow more understanding, loving,
compassionate, and helpful.
Either way, it’s still a choice.
How
can you create this type of happiness that will radiate in and around you
and move you along a path of refinement and solace?
I
spoke with Hale Dwoskin, author of Happiness is Free And It’s Easier
Than You Think!, about how to create happiness in one’s life. “What
most of us do is seek happiness in all the wrong places,” Hale told me.
He
says that if you are getting happiness from a thing or an object or
another person, you should check a little deeper because happiness should
originate from inside yourself.
Hale
counsels “You should bring happiness to a new car, for example, and
not have to seek it again when the new-car smell wears off.”
Hale
gave me some tips for staying in touch with that natural, internal state
of happiness:
Do simple things to love and support others.
Focus on being there for another person in a truly giving way.
Recognize what makes you happy on a deep level.
Get in touch with your feelings and your values.
Get away from pretending to be happy.
Have not only a smile on your face but also radiate a true feeling of
happiness so that people around you don’t feel you’re uptight or
stressed.
Develop universal happiness traits.
This would mean you don’t feel like you have to put yourself down or make
yourself better than others. You would be comfortable with who you are
and where you’re going. You would have a feeling of lovingness and would
be generous with your energy toward others. And, your happiness would not
be taken away by what’s happening around you.
Sometimes being able to take stock in your frame of mind is an excellent
way to find happiness.

Meditation Secrets
for Women
Author Camille Maurine talked to me about how to find peace and
happiness through being present -- in the moment – and getting out
of what is circling around us.
“Studies have shown
that to be truly peaceful and happy we need to be able to honor all
that we are feeling and all that is going through us, even our
despair and grief,” says Camille.
She teaches others
to get in touch with those feelings, using meditation techniques as
a way to reach that peaceful, happy, safe mind-set. Two techniques
Camille says you can try are the following:
Breathing
with all you know about love.
Circle yourself in your breath while in a quiet place and think
about all the times when you have felt loved. You might also send
out feelings of love with your thoughts. You are invoking a
full-circulation atmosphere of love with a high quality of
attention. |

the present moment. |
Sensory awareness through the present moment.
This is something that can be done at any time and any place. Turn off
your worries. Listen to only the sounds around you. See only the sights
in your immediate location. Realize you are safe, happy, and comfortable
where you are. Let go, and be relaxed.
